Monsoon Food | Amazing Food that will make your Mood in Monsoon
Happiness is enjoying the monsoon with some amazing food 🙂
There are so many different types of people in this world. Some people like monsoon, some hate and some love it extremely. I’m the kind of person who loves monsoon. Whether it comes to get wet in rain or go out for long rides or drive. The best part is going on a long drive and enjoying food. India is a diverse country also when it comes to raining. Every state has their own type of rain. I’m a Mumbaikar and you might have heard it so many times that the monsoon in Mumbai is pretty amazing.
Today we are going to talk about some snacks that will make you feel good during the monsoon if you can prepare them at your home or get them on the street.
Mausam Mastana, Item Nastana 😉 who cares when you have mouth watering food with you and it’s raining outside.
Pakoras with Chai :
Name any person who doesn’t like fried food, they must not be from this planet. Especially when it’s raining outside and you can’t wait to grab that Pakora and bite it quickly. Pakoras are all-time favourite snacks made with mixed vegetables and chickpea flour. You can prepare them very quickly or grabbing them from the street around the corner would be quickest. Nowadays you can also order them online on applications like Zomato, UberEats and Swiggy etc.
Chai is a must with the Pakoras, it’s like cherry on the cake. India is one of the largest exporters of Tea around the globe. Even if you are roaming outside you can get a cutting chai almost at any corner of the city. Chai makers earn good amounts of money by selling Tea in India. With good contacts a chaiwala can also become the prime minister of a country.
In chai there are different types of ways to make and add ingredients. You add special spices and make a Masala chai. However the most famous ones we buy on the streets are the one made with Ginger or Cardamom. I personally like the ginger one especially on a rainy day 😉 The traditional masala chai is a spiced beverage brewed with different proportions of warming spices. The spice mixture, called karha, uses a base of ground ginger and green cardamom pods. Other spices are usually added to this karha including one or more of cinnamon, star anise, fennel seeds, peppercorn, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom seeds, ginger root, honey, vanilla, and other spices.
Bun Makhan Or Samosas :
Bun Makhan (Maska Bun) is a very common and famous bread bun used by most of the tea vendors on the street and is also one of a famous street breakfast to have in a city like Mumbai. It’s very simple to prepare at home. All you need is a Bun, Butter and Sugar. You need to cut the slice of the bun from the top then add butter on both the inner side and later add a little bit of sugar on top, your bun makhan is ready to serve along the tea on a rainy evening. You’ll see the bun maska seller outside most of the train stations in the morning in Mumbai. People who get up very early and skip breakfast to avoid the train rush, end up eating breakfast at the train stations most of the time and it is not expensive at all.
Samosa is fried pastry which is filled with mashed potato and some veggies along. It’s a very popular street food to have in Mumbai or India in general. If anything can give competition to Vada Pav then it’s Samosa in Mumbai. The price of the samosa can be depending on the locality or the ratings of the restaurants you go, from Rs. 5 and up to Rs. 80. It’s consumed so much that even in the cinema you can buy it along with the popcorn. It is mostly served with Chutney which is a combination of chilli and spices or you can also have it with the tomato ketchup.Freshly fried samosas and its aroma will surely give hunger pangs to anyone.
Egg Chicken Roll :
Feeling hungry and you’re too lazy to prepare the food or run out of some vegetables to prepare then you can go with the option of Egg Chicken Roll or Egg Roll. One of the easiest options to grab and eat on a rainy day. The Egg Chicken Roll was originally created in the United States somewhere around 1930, I’m sure it must be older than that but no one would have copyrighted it before. The rolls are generally relished with tomato ketchup and a dash of chilli sauce. You can easily prepare it at home and you also deep fry it to make it more crispier.
Steamed Momos :
Steamed momos is a street food originally found mostly in Tibet, Ladakh, Sikkim, and Darjeeling. Momos are steamed dumplings with a mild but slight spicy filling of cabbage, onions, and carrots. If you want you can also add Chicken or Meat in it. Nowadays people add chocolate and prepare desert momo. You can steam it and also you can deep fry it according to your preference. One should never miss out on a plate of steamed momos with hot garlic sauce or szechuan sauce. It became very trendy street food in the city from around 2015, when street vendors started selling them on the street instead of only in the restaurants. Also it’s in the list of street food because it is not so expensive as well.
Moong Bhaji :
Alternate for Samosa or Momos in the monsoon is Moong Bhaji. It is one of the famous snacks in Mumbai, because Moong Bhaji is a typical Maharashtrian snack enjoyed during the monsoon. The bhaji are made from moong dal (yellow mung lentils), rice flour, onions, green chillies, and cumin seeds. People like to have it with Pav (bun) along with adding chutney or fried chillies. Moong Bhaji are quite crispy compared to Vada or Onion bhaji. I personally like to have them with liquidy chutney which is completely spicy and prepared with very spicy chilli.
Aloo Chop :
Aloo (Potato) you can also say that it is the mutual friend of all the vegetables, because it is mixed with almost anything. Aloo chop is one of the best monsoons treats for taste buds in Kolkata, Aloo Chop is made in the same way a batata vada is prepared but with a Bengali touch of spices and ingredients. It is a very popular deep-fried street food in Kolkata, it is prepared with mashed potatoes and besan coating and goes best with tamarind chutney or tomato ketchup. It looks very similar to vada pav but it is totally different when it comes to taste.
The list is actually very big when it comes to snacks to have in monsoon, so here we have covered the best and popular ones for you.
